How can we help students develop both language and subject knowledge effectively? This course explores the Language Triptych—Language FOR, THROUGH, and WITH content—providing educators with practical strategies to integrate language and subject learning seamlessly. Participants will discover how to support students in using language to engage in academic discourse, process complex content, and communicate effectively across disciplines. Objectives: - Identify and apply subject-specific terminology and discourse patterns. - Use language effectively to communicate ideas, thoughts and understandings. - Leverage language to comprehend, interact with, and engage deeply in the subject matter. By the end of the course, you will be able to: - Recognize and apply subject-specific language to enhance students' understanding and communication across various disciplines. - Foster effective collaboration by providing students with the language tools necessary for discussion, problem-solving, and critical thinking. - Improve content comprehension by incorporating language strategies that help students access, engage with, and analyze subject content. - Create activities and scaffolds that nurture students’ language development while deepening their content knowledge. - Utilize strategies that assist multilingual learners in acquiring academic language and subject knowledge concurrently. Modules: - The language OF content - The language FOR thinking - The language THROUGH content Duration: 3hrs (Tuesday April 15th, 17h-20h CEST, on google meet) Audience: Subject-teachers At the end of this course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.
