This course provides a practical process to embed climate education into the curriculum for your subject, addressing climate change, sustainability and the ecological crisis. Students want to be empowered to be problem-solvers. You will learn how to use a specific process – Horizon Scanning for Signals of Change - from Futures Literacy to apply in the classroom, enabling you and your students to connect subject content to climate, nature and sustainability by identifying and exploring real-world innovative solutions happening today. Objectives As teachers, you will explore how scanning for signals of change enables you to embed climate education into the curriculum for your subject by: - Learning the basics of Futures Literacy and Horizon Scanning. - Practicing how to scan for and make-sense of Signals of Change for your subject using the process, to ensure that the process is integrated and intuitive, rather than a bolt-on. - Discovering how scanning for signals increases wellbeing, critical thinking and creativity for students...and teachers. - Learning how to assess this experiential process. By the end of the course, you will be able to: - Recognize how scanning for signals of change enables you to embed climate education into the curriculum for your subject. - Confidently apply the Horizon Scanning for Signals of Change process. - Identify signals of change in climate, nature and sustainability for your subject. - Apply the process in the classroom with students. Modules - Basics of Futures Literacy. - Horizon Scanning for Signals of Change. - Climate Education, Signals and Your Subject. - Scanning for Signals in the Classroom. - Assessment of Competencies. - Creating a Climate Education Signals Showcase. Duration: 2 x 3 hour sessions complete with a learning workbook. At the end of this course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.
