About

This programme introduces teachers of pupils aged 4 to 14 to an approach to teaching mathematics which is proven by decades of research to raise attainment for pupils of different ages: the Let’s Think Maths programme. Best of all, this is not a new scheme but a set of lessons to teach once a fortnight, and which will help you identify what pupils struggle with in mathematics, so that your day-to-day mathematics teaching can be more effective. The programme introduces you to an approach to mathematics teaching that will make your lessons more engaging, participatory, accessible to a class with varied learning needs and achievement levels, and, best of all, fun for you and your pupils. The first live session explores the theory behind the approach and the design of the lessons, including how the pedagogy works in the classroom. This will cover the four principles of Let’s Think teaching: concrete preparation, cognitive conflict, social construction, and metacognition. There will also be a demonstration lesson for you to engage with. You will then gain access to a set of lesson demonstration videos and associated teaching resources, which will introduce you to three Let’s Think lessons you can use with the pupils you teach. *Please note that there is a charge to access the full set of Let’s Think resources for all ages through our online portal, and information about this will be shared at the first session. Duration: 2 live online sessions of 2 hours each, with three self-paced online sessions to complete in between (approximately one hour each, depending on the participant’s pace). Dates: Wednesday 11 February and Thursday 19 March Time: 5-7pm CET (4-6pm UK time) Minimum participants: 10. Participants will receive a certificate at the end of the course. A set of lesson resources will be provided so that you can explore the approach in your own classroom. View a short excerpt: https://youtu.be/GX0imWo4qME
