About

MINI-SERIES SESSION 1 — LANGUAGE LEARNING This session is part of the series: Integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Using Futures Thinking You want your students to discuss meaningful, real-world issues while developing their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. But finding suitable content, adapting it to different language levels and creating engaging activities takes time. WHAT IF YOU COULD USE ONE REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE OF CHANGE TO BUILD A LANGUAGE ACTIVITY AROUND OBJECTIVES YOU'RE ALREADY TEACHING? In this practical, interactive 75-minute session, Elaine France will introduce you to signals of change — small examples of innovation, changing behaviours, policies or community initiatives that can become authentic language learning resources. WHAT WILL CHANGE FOR YOU? Instead of spending hours searching for suitable sustainability materials, you'll learn how to identify a relevant signal and explore its potential for language learning. YOU'LL PRACTISE HOW TO: - Turn a signal into speaking, listening, reading or writing activities. - Adapt the same topic to different ages and language levels. - Use questions that encourage students to explain, discuss and justify their ideas. - Explore sustainability and possible futures without creating anxiety or overwhelm. - Connect activities to language objectives and relevant competences. THE MINI-SERIES INCLUDES: 1. Language Learning: How Can I Bring Sustainability into My Language Lessons Without Adding More Work? 2. Finding Authentic Content: Where Can I Find Real-World Examples That Make Sustainability Relevant to My Students? 3. Curriculum Integration: How Can I Teach Sustainability Without Creating an Entirely New Unit? 4. Student Engagement: How Can I Help Students Explore Global Challenges Without Feeling Overwhelmed? Date of session 1: October 27th, 2026 Format: Online via Zoom Time: 5PM (CET) Duration: 75 minutes Price: CHF 59
