About
The best professional development for teachers makes a real difference to their classroom practice, involves them working collaboratively to test ideas out in their classes, and lasts over several sessions, so that they can begin to see the impact of changes they are making. One approach to teacher professional development that has been proven to incorporate all of these best practice approaches is lesson study. Lesson study, which was originally developed in Japan, is now used worldwide to develop teachers. Its use has been linked to the high performance of Japanese pupils in international tests. It engages teachers in cycles of collaborative lesson planning, researching lessons to test out ideas in the classroom, and reflective discussions to help them consider how to embed their learning into their own practice. This programme will introduce you to Japanese lesson study and help you explore the best way to implement the approach in your own school. It will offer you a step-by-step guide to leading lesson study for a group of teachers initially, and for the whole school eventually. You will be able to access a handbook with all the information and tools you need to lead lesson study and enable high-quality teacher learning. Audience: Suitable for all teachers responsible for developing the practice of other teachers, as well as middle and senior leaders involved in supporting professional development within their schools. Duration: 2 hour live online session, plus two one hour self-paced online sessions Dates: Wednesday 25 February Time: 5-7pm CET (4-6pm UK time) Minimum participants: 10. Participants will receive a certificate at the end of the course.
